Native to Australia
This is a sea star in the family Asteropseidae, found in Australia, from Caloundra in Queensland south to Tasmania and west to the Houtman Abrolhos islands, off Western Australia.
But they have also been discovered in other oceans recently, searching for cooler waters as the climate heats up. There have been reported sightings of large invasions of them landing on foreign beaches. Apparently, there is evidence of them mutating to adapt to their new surroundings and strange environments.
Approach with caution!
They may appear to be deliciously appealing, displaying a concoction of toxic patterns, but beware if stung. They inject an addictive potion of desire straight to your heart and you can't stop at one.
